PeyBack Foundation Announces 2011 Grant Guidelines to Support Programs for Disadvantaged Children

The PeyBack Foundation, a public non-profit corporation, was established in 1999 by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning to promote the future success of disadvantaged youth by assisting programs that provide leadership and growth opportunities for children at risk.

Due to the close association of Peyton Manning with the Indiana, Tennessee and the New Orleans Metropolitan area, programs and projects related to the youth in these areas are of primary concern to the Foundation.

Programs that address the following are those the Foundation would be more likely to fund programs:
  • Have a direct benefit to children through relationships and activities
  • Promote positive interaction with peers and adults
  • provide opportunities for children to be creative
  • Promote youth and life skills development
  • Develop social skills
  • Provide physical activity
  • Offer meaningful community involvement

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's 2010 New Jersey Health Initiatives Program Announces Focus on At-Risk Young Men

The New Jersey Health Initiatives 2010, a statewide grantmaking program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), will support projects that foster positive intellectual and emotional development and prevent violence and related health-risking social behaviors (e.g., substance abuse, physical aggression, delinquency) in young men at risk ages 14–24. Project funds will support prevention programs using evidence-based or promising models of positive program solutions for young men at risk.

Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund Accepting Letters of Inquiry

The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund Awards were established to promote and enable wildlife conservation through partnerships with scientists, educators and organizations committed to preserving earth's biodiversity.

Our interests are in furthering the support of established conservation PROGRAMS -- particularly those long-term in nature -- that preferably have all of these components:
  • contain a strong in situ component (scientific field studies)
  • promote education, awareness and training in country (education programs
  • demonstrate a marked benefit to in country participants, habitats and species by working with local communities, regional/national NGO's or governments that directly impact the initiative
  • the principal investigator affirms that the welfare of the animals identified in this study is not compromised. Specifically, the principle investigator affirms that
    Capture/restraint techniques minimize stress and the potential for physical injury or psychological harm;
  • Immobilization/anesthesia is done under the direct supervision of a veterinarian or other trained professional
  • Exposure to noxious stimuli and presumptive negative effects are minimized with administration of anesthetic and/or analgesic agents where appropriate.

We also consider initiatives or PROJECTS that focus in any of the three areas described above and that may lead to a more established overall conservation program or support such a program.

Herb Block Foundation Invites Washington, D.C.-Based Projects to Apply for Pathways Out of Poverty Program

The Pathways Out of Poverty. Grants range from basic literacy groups, GED programs, literacy counseling and groups providing child care and job training. These grants are limited to groups in the immediate Washington Metropolitan Area.

This program will focus on helping needy young people and adults gain a quality education. For projects serving youth, The Herb Block Foundation seeks proposals which focus on improving student achievement and healthy development of young people of middle school age and above. Projects may include in-school and community-based educational programs, after-school activities, and mentoring programs. Programs designed to increase high school graduation rates are encouraged to apply.

Western Union Foundation Announces New Scholarship Program for Immigrant Families

The Family Scholarship Program is intended to help two members of the same family move up the economic development ladder through education. Scholarships may be used for tuition for college/university education language acquisition classes, technical/skill training, and/or financial literacy. For example, one family member may request assistance to attend college and the other family member may request assistance to attend English as a Second Language (ESL) course.

Recipients are eligible to receive scholarships in amounts of $1,000-$5,000 per family. (For example, one scholarship recipient may receive $1,500 for an ESL course and the other recipient $3,500 for tuition at a university).

Toyota TAPESTRY Program Accepting Entries for the 20th Annual Science Grant Competition

Toyota TAPESTRY recognizes outstanding educators who are making a difference by demonstrating excellence and creativity in science teaching. Since 1991 the program has awarded more than $8.6 million to 1,068 teams of teachers for innovative science classroom projects. Thanks to these teachers’ tireless efforts to improve their skills and increase their effectiveness, students nationwide are gaining a better understanding of science principles and methodologies. Toyota and NSTA sincerely hope these grants continue to inspire teachers and serve as a catalyst for lifetime science learning.

A partnership between Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. , Inc. and the National Science Teachers Association, the Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program offers grants to K–12 science teachers for innovative projects that enhance science education in the school and/or school district. 50 large grants and a minimum of 20 mini-grants, totaling $550,000 in all, will be awarded this year. To apply for funding, qualified teachers must write a Toyota TAPESTRY proposal according to the proposal requirements.

The deadline for the completion of the online application is 11:59 P.M. EST Monday, January 18, 2010. Recipients of Toyota TAPESTRY grants will be notified by March 4, 2010. Non-recipients will be notified by May 31, 2010.

Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis Seeks Letters of Inquiry From Nonprofits for Community Grants

Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis solicits proposals in January of each year and selects grant recipients in June. We use a four-step grant application process led by volunteer Impact members in five focus areas. We do not accept grant requests outside of our annual review process.

Be certain to carefully review the four-step grant application process to fully understand how our grant process works and which forms nonprofits must complete by the deadlines indicated. Grant application documents are available for downloading within the four step grant application process section under the Grant Process.

Impact 100 will accept grant applications in five focus areas: arts & culture, education, environment, family and health & wellness. Each grant applicant must select only one focus area for grant consideration. Impact 100 will not provide guidance on selecting the appropriate focus area. Grant applications will be accepted from nonprofits in the Greater Indianapolis area, including, Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Morgan, Hendricks and Boone counties.

Samuel Harris Fund for Children's Dental Health Grants Program Invites Applications

The ADA Foundation Samuel D. Harris Fund for Children's Dental Health is a permanent endowment fund dedicated to the prevention of childhood caries and oral health promotion and education. The Harris Fund awards competitive grants of up to $5,000, to selected applicants whose oral health programs are designed to improve and maintain children's oral health through primary prevention and education. Please note 2009 funding is more limited than in past years. A total of $50,000 will be available for program grants and approximately 8-10 awards will be made.

Proposals for grants of up to $5,000 received from community-based, non-profit, oral health and early childhood caries prevention education programs for mothers/caregivers of infants in the United States and its territories that comply with the Submission Guidelines will be considered.

The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation had been BNSF Railway’s main vehicle for charitable giving since 1996 when the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroads merged to form the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, now known as the BNSF Railway. The Foundation will support and improve the general welfare and quality of life in communities served by BNSF and in which our employees live, work and volunteer through various health and human service, educational, civic, youth and cultural projects. The BNSF Foundation has supported and helped improve quality of life for thousands of communities across the 28 states through which BNSF operates, and where BNSF employees live, work and volunteer. ING Unsung Heroes Program Offers Grants for K-12 Educational Projects

For more than 10 years, and with $3.0 million in awarded grants, ING Unsung Heroes has proven to be an A+ program with educators. The program's "alumni" have inspired success in the classroom and impacted countless numbers of students. Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class projects. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000

Applications for the 2010 awards are now available. The application deadline is April 30, 2010. To make it easier for applicants to fill in the required information, the non-essay portion of the application is now a fillable PDF. All that an applicant needs to do is download the PDF and type in that information directly. Applicants still need to complete the essay and budget sections in a separate Word document or other word processing program, and submit all application materials following the process outlined in the application.

J. Jill Compassion Fund Seeking Grant Applications to Support Poor and Homeless Women

While our guidelines are subject to change on an annual basis, the guidelines used for the 2010 application review are as follow:

1. Job training, education and transitional and/or affordable housing to women in need
2. Programs that break down barriers for women in crisis to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency 3. General operating expenses to organizations that fall within J.Jill's guidelines.

The J. Jill Compassion Fund will provide general operating support to organizations whose mission is to provide the above services. Program support is limited to the expansion or enhancement of existing programs, rather than to fund new programs.

Home Depot Accepting Applications for Building Healthy Communities Grant Program

Grants, up to $2,500, are now available to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, public schools or tax-exempt public service agencies in the U.S. who are using the power of volunteers to improve the physical health of their community. Grants are made in the form of The Home Depot gift cards for the purchase or tools or materials.

Only grants submitted through the online application process will be considered for funding. All unsolicited donation requests received via mail, phone or e-mail will be referred to this online grant program.

Big Read Program Offers Grants to Support Community Reading Projects

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and to encourage citizens to read for pleasure and enlightenment. The Big Read provides U.S. communities with grants and comprehensive resources that support their efforts to read and discuss a single book or the work of a poet.

Organizations may apply for grants ranging from $2,500 to $20,000. Grant size will be determined based on:
  • Community population—for example, the suggested grant range for a small community with fewer than 50,000 residents is $2,500–$7,500; the suggested grant range for larger cities or towns is $7,500–$20,000.
  • Number of activities planned—applicants demonstrating innovative and detailed plans to host more than the minimum required activities (see Event plans) may be considered for grants at the upper end of the grant range.
  • Overall strength of the application— based on the selection criteria.
